Upright before the storm

Up the lane to post a little order before the storm came in. The intense, humid heat of the previous week, which I find quite debilitating, has been replaced by restless skies, sudden downpours and flash storms. Everywhere there is a creeping sense that summer is winding down, with blackberries ripening and the dawn chorus starting later each morning. I must try to get the chimney swept before autumn.

I am afraid we may end up with bad storms tomorrow too. It's been way too hot, and usually that builds up to a storm. We need the rain so I won't complain, but I do hope it doesn't level the corn and tomatoes.

Autumn is my favorite season. Here in my country we are in winter, very cold. Kisses

We drove over 100 miles yesterday in bizarre weather. Several heavy storms, a stop for a picnic lunch on a Cotswold hill shrouded in heavy mist like a 1950's horror film where the villages eventually reappeared like Brigadoon, and some bouts of bright hot sunshine. It's nice to be somewhere different but not a holiday - repairs to a family property that needs to sold in the Autumn after being unreachable during lockdowns. Hope the crops aren't getting too battered.

I also have this sense of summer winding down. Your thought of cleaning the chimney reminds me of a book I read recently, by Alice Taylor, wherein she describes helping her great-aunt clean the chimney. Good luck!
