Around the Wrekin

Having been cooped up working for several weeks, enduring the UK storms, I was driven to go rambling yesterday, when the sun came out and the temperature rose. I explored a lane a mile away, to see if I could do a circular walk. The Wrekin popped up round every corner; there it is nestling under the clouds.

So long since I wandered down a quiet lane for a proper walk, my legs a bit wobbly from lack of exercise.

I haven't taken so many photos since Andy went - oh I've gone through the motions, but without the enthusiasm of old. What quiet joy to find myself immersed in snapping the countryside.

Something round every corner, and finding the most delightful little scenic bridge.

There's the Wrekin again, popping it's head up.

Lots of trees down, fallen giants succumbing to the recent high winds. I walked all afternoon, using the Wrekin and the Long Mynd as my landmarks. I underestimated the distance though and it was a long trek without a map.

For the first time since moving to Shropshire nearly two years ago, I felt a real connection with the landscape and I cannot adequately express what relief and hope it has given me. Even though six miles was somewhat too far for an out of practise wanderer.

Hello, Gretel!
How nice that you felt this beautiful landscape close to your heart! Nature can be a source of relief and inspiration any time, any season and I suppose that your connection will become deeper and stronger.
I hope the winds will calm down and the rains will withdraw, so that the sun shows its warm smile! Hugs!xx

A hundred views of Wrekin... we sailed up the Avon from Tewkesbury last summer, and Bredon Hill kept reappearing round the corner as we meandered our way through Pershore and Evesham. I like that with a hill.

What gorgeous countryside - that beautiful blue sky and nature's glorious colours after a very grey January would do anyone's heart good.

A wonderful step in every sense of the word. One of the things that caught my imagination (when I first went to Shropshire) was the immense number of trees against the ancient landscape. I hope they gladden your heart a little and continue to inspire.

Oh Gretel, the blue sky that your excellent photographs show is so, so different from any sky that has been on view here in NYC for weeks.

No wonder you took your legs out for such a long walk, although six miles is very, very impressive. I know that I can easily manage two or perhaps three miles of urban sidewalking (without the current ice and dank slushy corners) six miles would be way beyond what I might manage.

Bravo! And also thank you for letting the rest of us lazybones have a chance to share the Shropshire beauty that you've discovered.

Days are getting longer...even over here we can tell that the sun is doing its thing, and it's so much better than any electric neon effects.

What a beautiful day for a wander indeed! The blues, the greens, the lumps of trees in the distance... so FABULOUS. Here's to future wanders, and us wanderers!

Those are beautiful photos. What a great day to be out walking, and I can see why you were prompted to get out the camera again. Maybe only five and a half miles next time though. :) x

Hello Gretel, just returned to blogging after a long absence, but have followed a few favourites during that time, including you.
Now moved from Yorkshire to Shropshire so we are far neighbours! These images really touched me as they seem so filled with light... I do hope you are finding an echo of this spring promise in your life after the dark winter. JJ
