In my little part of the world, I am wishing away summer for autumn. I love autumn! I love your pics, you have a great eye for things. What kind of camera are you using? I went through a stack of old pics today and with the scanner not connected, I took pics of pics of Wales and Gloucestershire the times I had stayed, I'll post those later. Sorry for the ramble, love your pics :) ~ER~
Getting to be that way here too, albeit in a citified way. Except the trees, of course, which haven't quite reached that slightly-tired shade of green. Yesterday had just a little hint of autumn about it - a promise of the best time of the year to come.
Wonderful photos! I'm wishing for Autumn too....it's the only season here in Kentucky that I like. We have (in order) Ice, Flood, Heat, and Autumn. Can't wait to work in the garden without breaking a sweat BEFORE I start working!
I do so love your photos, and how you observe nature and ... how humans interact with the rest of nature.
I also love many shades of brown, from sienna, to umber, to mocha, to chocolate, to ... on and on.
However, having walked across Central Park today, may I say that in this city where the heat is definitely rising, our park is green, deeply, lushly green. The lawns are thick with grasses, the trees have branches that are bending low with the weight of their full growth of leaves, the flowering plants may be at the final act of the flowers, but are still very full of leaves.
Another week or two of today's heat, and I will revise my testimony!
(Before I walked back across the Park, a friend and I treated ourselves to a visit to the Frick Gallery, where there is currently a tiny, yet superb exhibit of old man Frick's Whistler's. This magnificent house with its water lily pool in one of the gardens, its multiple Vermeers (!), Constables, El Grecos, Tiepolos, Turners, etc., etc., is such a reminder of what rich fellows used to do with their money, and how they arranged that their collecting might be shared.)
Beautiful Photos. Whenever someone asks me what my favorite season is, my answer is always "the beginning of each". Still, not quite ready for autumn though.
It is about this time of year that I start looking forward to autumn and I bought some stripey brown woollen socks the other day to celebrate the feeling :) Your second shot is beautiful - it reminds me of the Bramble Hedge tales I used to love.
Dear Gretel, I like very much your photos. It is amazing that you have found so many traces of the upcoming Autumn… According to the Orthodox religious calendar today is the day of Christ’s Transformation. Bulgarians believe that today the weather “breaks” and this is the beginning of Autumn. They say that the Sun turns its back to Summer and faces Winter today. As a matter of fact the weather was changing all day long: from cloudy in the morning through hot in the afternoon till a rainy storm in the evening, But August is the month when most people prefer to take their holidays. My family is planning to go to the Black Sea in the second half of the month and I hope to post some photos in my blog, which has to be ready by that time.:) Everything here is green and I believe Summer will offer us more sunny and happy days!
Beautiful photos of August days. The butterfly photo in particular is magnificent. The mushroom/fungi photos remind me of the Beatrix Potter paintings of same. You have an eye for beauty. Happy summer days!
Oh, the fungus is so beautiful. There's a sensuality to a brand-new mushroom just broken from the ground, with bits of earth still clinging to its whiteness... it's not like anything else.

Bit of an editorial there. xo
I love the colour brown. And it's true...autumn will be arriving soon!
What is the figure in the top photo?? It looks like a turtle.
Beautiful Photos.

That second photo down is absolutely stunning in its subtlety. The butterfly is really camouflaged beautifully. Lovely, just lovely. x
No, not Autumn just yet, please! We need some more summer first!
I love that butterfly picture - makes me want to get the watercolours out! (but no, still painting potatoes...sob...)
Gorgeous pictures, Gretel, but sadly, yes, we are very close to Autumn now! Where did our Summer go?
More importantly, how was the Cricket?

I like brown - warm, earthy colours. Your photos are lovely but I hope we get a little more summer before autumn is really upon us!
I've already commented, but as if you didn't have enough to do, you've been tagged my dear. Check my page when you can, blessings! ~ER~

such beautiful pictures. I love autumn so it's wonderful to watch for it's approach.
Yes, and yellows and purples, too. I think of everything as "yellowing at the edges" right now. We picked our first blackberries the other day.
It's interesting to me that August seems rather dull, while in September a transformation takes place -- a lovely burnishing.
Oh, the fungus is so beautiful. There's a sensuality to a brand-new mushroom just broken from the ground, with bits of earth still clinging to its whiteness... it's not like anything else.
Wonderful set of photos, I've noticed that there is a lot of fungus around too. I love the autumn with all its shades of brown and gold.
Lovely pics. Mushies already eh? Must be all that cool and rain.
Such original thinking and with photos to match creates a really exciting blog. Love it! Johnson
