I noticed your blog in my Rainbow Orchid stats - thank you for the link! I am hugely envious of your beautiful watercolouring skills. Sigh! Fantastic work, thanks for sharing it.

Thank you Garen *blushes* - the pleasure is mine in placing the link - your comic skills are admirable, I enjoy Rainbow Orchid hugely!

Oh Gretel, you drawings are so delicate, so flowing. Looking at Glad Rags makes me want to dance…sometimes when I feel low or weather is depressing I just click on the Middle of Nowhere link in my Favourites. And here you are: warm, optimistic, a ray of sunshine on the net… : -) thank you. ella

oh Ella - thank you. How nice to know you visit. I am going to have to tell Andy that I am all of those things. (Just in case he hadn't noticed!)

HAHA! Gretel are you saying I'm a funny illustrator?!!?

Me and my mate did a comic years ago and Garen did some work in it!! Tis a small world!

Unlikely to have been OLIVER Cromwell in 1539 - that would have made him 100+ during the Civil War.
Possibly his distant relative THOMAS Cromwell - who helped Henry VIII dissolve the monasteries. (But again unlikely he saw the destruction of Hailes Abbey in person) As for being a vandal, well it depends whether you think a country in hock to Rome is agood idea or not.

Dear gfarrish - unfortunately you haven't made it possible to contact you directly about this rant, so maybe you will read it here...I was a bit confused at first as you posted your angry little comment on the wrong blogpost, but hey-ho. This is an ancient blogpost and you are of course, entirely right about it being Thomas Cromwell, not Oliver Cromwell; I had the misfortune to go to a pretty dire estate comprehensive and we weren't taught the history of the British Isles, which is shameful but true. Since writing this post five years ago, I have done my own research on Hailes Abbey etc and have indeed written about the same spot, this time with the facts right. As for your (or my) beliefs about the Dissolution of the Monastries etc - that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. And had you read my blog post a little more carefully, you will see that I wrote *it is rumoured* that Cromwell watched the destruction from this spot - it is only that, and you are welcome to find it unlikely. Often the handing down of such stories do have a grounding in truth, but it's down to the individual to believe or not believe. Have a nice life and take it easy.
