Il neige

There are few funnier sights then seeing the surpised outrage of cats when they realise that their universe has been transformed overnight with cold white stuff.

The Cotswolds had some of the heaviest snow fall in the country. Even Andy did not attempt his 45 minute commute on the motorbike, (especially after our tumble in the ice before Christmas) . So we went for a long walk through the fields.

The muffled creaking underfoot, the soft thud of snow falling from laden branches. A muted serenity, torn by the ragged croak of a solitary crow.

A young badger, his body still soft, lies dead in a drift. We wonder how a car could have been driving so fast in the icy slush. Nearing the village, an exodus of young families pull sledges towards the hill. The old church sits serenely under its shawl.

But really, despite the fragile beauty of the snowfall, the best place to be...

...is tucked up inside, beneath a cosy blanket.

  1. We've escaped the snow here in deepest Cornwall. Flippin' windy here though.

  2. I'm so envious of the snow Gretel ... we've had none at all - just a little sleet and lots of rain :(

It's lovely to see everyone's photos though! Your cat looks so snug in that last photo - the best place to be after a walk in the snow!

Wow Gretel that was truly wonderful. . .thank you so much for sharing it. We don't get snow here and I miss it terribly. The kitty is just so adorable tucked and all snuggly in the covers. Looks like a really nice kitty!

  5. What beautiful photos and an exquisite way of a narrating what you were experiencing walking along. You are right though, on a cold blustery day there is nothing like the warmth of a good blanket.

  9. Hi G,
I looked at your post yesterday, but didnt feel like commenting as I was rather sad, one of our cats is so old and dodery now, thought he was leaving us yesterday, but came down this morning to find him walking again, eating and drinking and meowing, which was great.

Your cats look like they are having a fabulous time in the snow!

Now that is just the type of snow you want, the type that gives Andy an unexpected day off! We had hardly any, it was all gone by lunchtime.

  11. Snow, snow, snow. (I am very glad that we are back to our 'normal' winter weather - which consists of near 50 degree weather and lots of drizzle.) Our cat is always rather indignant anytime it snows as well. Step, shake your paw, step, shake your paw. Glare. Repeat...

Hope YOU are home, warm and snuggly as well.

  14. Just catching up with everyone now I am back online after my terrible 11days without computer after my hardrive crash. The snow looks lovely but kitty looks even better snugged up in the blankets. Love the reading cards you are doing.

There's been unexpected snow everywhere this winter it seems...even on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. And how did my cat manage? He refused to go out! Pretty cool how your cat and the blanket are colour coordinated.
