Such happy little things are snails - and so much nicer to pick off plants than slugs. Though don't tell the chickens I throw them over the fence - they'd be most put-off!
What a joy to have a few minutes to spare out of days spent with family visits and painting walls, so that I could read about printing presses, ginger cats, bread and newts. Your writing never ceases to delight me!
This is first time that I have visited your beautiful site. Why did it take me so long?
I loved seeing lots of your artwork, and also enjoyed the photos of how you manage to fit so much into your home. The same is so true here in this apartment, a land of piles of books, yarns, baskets, baskets, canvasses, paints, watercolor blocks, paints, brushes, pencils, cameras, old china, just all sorts of things that delight me.
Ooh, beautiful, atmospheric stuff Gretel. I take it you didn't need the 'Sport' setting on your camera when you photographed your little guest!
ReplyDeleteGreat riddle! Sounds Hobbity. How big is that snail?
ReplyDeleteLyrical. Autumnal. Heavenly.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of you there, on the floor, sneaking up on that snail. :-)
Lovely pics pg. I love snails even more than I love slugs!
ReplyDeleteI love snails when they are not in my garden eating my veg!
ReplyDeleteHe is quite small Eric, about 2 centimeters maximum.
I've just put this riddle to Mr Nick.
ReplyDeleteTalk about twenty questions - "Can it fly? Has it got two legs? Four legs...six legs? No legs?!!"
Hee hee, we know how to have fun!
Gorgeous photo :0)

Beautiful snail picture, pg. Love the shapes those seed heads make.
ReplyDeleteI love snails. I have lovely brown and cream stripy ones in my garden. This doesn't stop me squashing them though when I catch them on my veg.
ReplyDeleteGreat riddle, very Anglo Saxon, and great photographs.
ReplyDeleteA lovely little snail, but he looks so huge

ReplyDeleteThe photos are quite lovely. I actually remember the riddle from when I was young (took forever to come up with an answer).
ReplyDeleteHobbity riddle, yes! :-) What a fun and unexpected place to find that guy. (I'm glad (and jealous) to see you outside).
ReplyDeleteLovely photo...I love riddles where the answer is right there :)

Such a remarkable photo and a very pretty chestnut snail. Whatever does he expect to eat from a whithered Queen Anne's Lace? Poor Dear.
