Geoffrey the Gentle

Geoffrey is the first giraffe I have been asked to do. I tried various designs, from very stylised to uber-cutesy baby animal style. In the end he was a mixture of all of them, the right hand page being the one I was happy with - and luckily my client was too.

My
Facebook fans got a sneak peek of him some weeks ago, with this WIP picture -

He took longer than anticipated though! He is almost nine inches tall.

He is 100% felt- no wire armatures inside.

Although his 'horns' are wire, thread wrapped with little hearts to top them off.

Soon he'll be on his way to his new 'job' and I'll begin my next order - a lady ladybird. Yes, that is what I wrote - a lady ladybird. Or lady ladybug, if you are one of my American readers.

Goodbye Geoffrey!

  1. talking giraffes, I bought a loaf of giraffe bread from Sainsburys yesterday because I liked the story of how they changed the name, and I was hungry. Funny how it seems so v obvious now you look at it.

    Nice giraffe there!

  3. Oh....my heart is melting. He is just too lovely. I've been collecting giraffes for many years. My favorites are the real ones at Disney World's Animal Kingdom (only a half hour from me). There's no way I'm even going to ask what you charge to make him......sigh.

  4. Love Geoffrey .. almost a 'spring' feel to him if you know what I mean....maybe new beginnings... and, seeing as he is the first of the giraffes that's probably perfect ...

  6. dear Gentle Geoffrey, I particularly love his little tail- I love elephant's little tails too, they're so out of proportion to the rest of their bodies...oh and I love his stitched spots...and his horns...and the brown patch of hair and his mane...in fact, I have to say I love him to bits!

  7. I saw Geoffrey on Pinterest and repinned him to my Handmade Spesh board! Lovely. I have a little felted giraffe I made too (but he's only about 3.25 inches!) I named him "tall horse". He's on my Pinterest if you care to have a look. I loved Geoffrey because he's SO different from Tall Horse and that made me smile about the wonderful variations of artistic expression! Thanks for sharing! I'm now following you on Bloglovin' :)

  10. Beautiful, a very poised pose for this graceful creature! How clever those patches are, with the look of blanket stitching. And that signature smooth PG surface finish, as if it would be silky smooth to touch.
