Taking advice from friends

ancient portfolio work - 1993

Lemsip powders, Lemsip cough medicine, lemon Lockets - it's a good job lemon is one of my favourite flavours.

For the first time since starting this blog, four years ago, I am taking what I believe is called a *blog break* - just a small one, so I have one thing less to worry about. Finding myself ill for the second time this month, I am really and truly going to bugger off (
quaint Anglo-Saxon expression for my American readers) and rest - as everyone from Andy to friends to my lovely clients have advised. And as up till now I have tried to ignore. Apart from working on things-I-can't-reveal, coughing and snuffling, there is nothing to write about. I'm just too wiped out to try to do everything as I usually do, not even write a halfway entertaining blogpost; so you aren't missing anything except monstrous amounts of sickly self pity.

Cough.

  1. Hope the rest does the trick. Indulge yourself with bed, and blankets on the sofa in front of a lovely fire. I recommend hot toddies too :)

  2. good job taking the rest u need.
Thats what illness is for, a reason to do nothing at all! Yes I know it's not so much fun for long and especially when you have a creative drive to fight. But that first day on the sofa is just bliss!

  3. Wishing you fully recovered again, soon, Gretel. 'Love the old lemons image, too. Lemon is one of my favourite flavours, as well. Chocolate is also prescribed: for the zinc it contains, which aids absorption of vitamin C

  5. Get well soon and while your into a lemony theme why not try a whisky, lemon, honey and hot water toddy. Works a treat, you'll see. Smells very Christmassy too.

  6. Excellent plan you've got there, PG.

Tend to yourself, and ease up on non-essentials.

I think all of us need to take that same advice from time to time.

My favourite is Ribena made with hot water, with a large spoonful of honey stirred in - very soothing for the throat and lots of vitamin C. Get well soon and I'll look forward to your next post!!

  18. Oh, dear Gretel!Have a good rest, get healthy again and what's most important - dedicate all the time entirely to yourself. It's so exhausting to work without a break...:-(

  19. Take as long as is necessary to get better. Do as little as possible (not easy, I know), and don't rush back too soon. Your body is telling you something........

  39. There are times when you just have to give in gracefully and go to bed with a hotwater bottle and a large box of tissues. Rest, keep warm, drink plenty of fluids and get well soon!

  40. So happy to hear you're better Gretel. You work so hard I do hope you manage to have a restful time. The Pookie the fairy Rabbit illustrations look gorgeous, I must look up the name of the illustrator. That's a lovely photo of you and your mum. It must bring back more memories seeing the houses in the background. She looks beautiful.xx
